| November 27-28, 2009 (Eid'l Adha) not National Holidays |

Whether you'll receive this news with a heavy heart depends on whether you're in favor of more national holidays in the Philippines. It also depends on whether you've already booked a vacation around November 27-28, which dates were earlier declared as national holidays by Malacanang to commemorate the Islam feast of Eid'l Adha. It is no longer a national holiday; just a regional holiday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The President previously issued Proclamation 1808 (click here for full text), declaring that Eid'l Adha as a national holiday. This is contrary to Republic Act 9492 (full text), fixing the holidays in the Philippines, which provides that Eid'l Adha is a regional holiday in ARMM. The President subsequently issued Proclamation 1808-A (full text), amending Proc. 1808 and declaring that Eid'l Adha is a regional holiday, not a national holiday. In other words, there's only one long weekend in November, not two as previously noted. (I thought of merely updating the previous post, but decided otherwise since updates would only be sent to email subscribers with new posts.)
