| More Filipinos Feel they are Worse Off |

If you feel that you're worse off this year, don't be hard on yourself -- you're not alone. More Filipinos feel that they are worse off now than last year, and, worse (pun intended), a higher percentage thinks most Filipinos are “losers” now compared to a year ago. This is part of the study result of Pulse Asia's October 2008 Nationwide Survey on Quality of Life (QOL), Comparative State of the National Economy, and American Financial Crisis. The face-to-face field interviews for the project were conducted from 14 to 27 October 2008.
The highlights of the study are as follows:
It doesn't help that a rough financial sea lies ahead, even among overseas Filipino workers or OFWs. Let's consider the news. At least 781 OFWs have been laid off in Taiwan, as reported in Inquirer, and that's just in Taiwan. Another report says the 2008 Christmas holiday may turn out to be the gloomiest since the Philippines was gripped by political turmoil after the ouster of Joseph Estrada in 2001. There's no doubt more effort to save is important in this time of financial turmoil. So, let's hear what you have to say through an informal survey. Do you feel worse off this year as compared to last year? (Update: The poll ran from November 24-December 19 with these results: Yes -- 88 votes (77.1%); No -- 18 votes (17.1%); I don't care -- 6 votes (5.7%).
