Negosyo: Sagot sa Kahirapan? Print E-mail

We’ve previously noted this tagline – “negosyo, ang sagot sa kahirapan.” Business is the answer to poverty (or maybe there's another translation). At first glance, the logic behind this tagline appears to be simple. Successful entrepreneurs generate employment, reducing unemployment rate (although we are still to define who are Pinoy Entrepreneurs). Work for more people is a good sign of progress – although this may be too simplistic considering that economic gains may not necessarily trickle down to the poor.

On the other hand, this doesn’t seem to be the focus of GoNegosyo, but the cultivation of an entrepreneurial spirit among the people, embodied in this line: “Teach a nation how to fish, feed the nation many lifetimes.”

The purpose of this article is not for us to render an opinion on this matter. Not yet, at least. The purpose of this article or poll is to listen to everyone’s opinion (or at least those who have internet connection and are inclined to express their thoughts).

So, that being said, do you consider business as the answer to poverty? We’ve previously asked why many Filipinos are poor and maybe it’s now time to ask if business is the antidote to poverty. The poll, which was found at the left side of this blog, ran from 10 August to 9 September 2008. Out of the 100 votes: 80% said "yes", business is the answer to poverty; 18% said "no", business is not the answer to poverty; and 2% said they don't care. Even if the poll is now closed, you could still express your opinion at the comment section below.

Yes, I totally agree that" Negosyo: Sagot Sa Kahirapan", but, how do we address this so that everyone will be happy right in his own backyards? Well, there must be "Political Will" to carry on with this program for this nation to become great again. Today, we are a nation of employees. Why can't we make this a nation of employers? So that, our citizens will no longer go abroad and look for a "Job". But,for Pinoy Entreprenuers, it is not too late to do so? There is now a new movement, "GoNegosyo", let us be active supporters of this crusade and learn fast to share its accomplishments...

Entrepreneurship may be the key.. But we must always remember.. education is first and foremost..

How can one teach another the basics of entrepreneurship if the other lacks basic skills supposedly coming from education. Skills like basic addition and subtraction, percentages, reading and re-educating one's self.

Entrepreneurship is definitely the answer. But a person still has to have the smarts...

Yes it is. Not only do we provide jobs, but having a business has the potential to bring you abundance. Yes we see those VPs or managers of companies having high salaries, but guess what, someone else is still richer than them enjoying freedom - the owner of the company or the entrepreneur!
