| Poll: Would you pay your taxes? |

Tax is the lifeblood of the government. It is also among the realities in life (even in death, as certain taxes apply after we die) that we can't escape from. Every Pinoy Entrepreneur doing business knows about taxes. Of course, we could try to "hide", whether through tax avoidance or tax evasion. Tax avoidance is perfectly legal, while tax evasion is a criminal offense. The imposition of criminal penalties, including imprisonment, shows the importance of tax collection. It also highlights the fact that so many taxpayers don't want to pay taxes. They have to be threatened with imprisonment to "encourage" them to pay taxes.
This brings us to our next poll, but before we pose the question, let's clarify the terms. When we say "willingly", it means paying the taxes even if there are no penalties for non-payment of taxes. It speaks of something altruistic, something which Pinoy Entrepreneurs would want to do for the common good without being complelled to do so. When we speak of doing something for the "common good", we're referring to the exact opposite of corruption. Now, having said that, here's the question -- Would you willingly pay your taxes if you know that the government is using the taxes for the common good? There are three choices.
Update: There are 18 votes as of 25 July 2008. 17 voted (94.4%) "yes", they would willingly pay tax if they know that the government is using it for the common good. There's only 1 vote (5.6%0 for "no". You could still express your opinion using the comment section below. Thank you.
