Unfinished Business: Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez Print E-mail

I know the billing of this boxing fight is "Unfinished Business," but it has nothing to do with business. The roads are eerily quite today. No traffic. Not much people. Crime rate was practically down to zero. No fighting in politics (but not the “politicking”). No, there’s no coup or some destabilization plot. No war between the military and the rebels. But there’s another war brewing.

Unfinished BusinessIt’s a war, billed as the “Unfinished Business,” waged between the Philippines, with Manny Pacquiao, against Mexico, this time represented by Juan Manuel Marquez. It’s a war fought within the boxing ring.

As I noted before, no one can deny that Manny has become one, if not the only, unifying element in our country today. There’s no doubt that Manny has attained the status of a legend in boxing history. He carries the Philippine flag and the Filipinos’ hopes in the international stage. He’s an example that those who once had nothing can achieve great things. He’s a reminder that one’s status in life can change with perseverance and hard work. He’s one proud Filipino and he makes us Filipinos proud.

Before I get carried away, I have to go watch the fight via satellite at Gerry’s-Congressional Ave. I’ll reserve the next paragraph to announce that Manny is the winner. . .

. . . Manny won! But it was a close fight. Split decision, 1 point. Still, Marquez was floored in the 3rd round. Crowd roars. Yeahhhhh!
