Somebody said that she just learned about December 24 being a holiday, which is quite surprising because we already noted this, as early as October of this year, in the post Public Holidays for October, November and December (2007) in the Philippines. Indeed, we said that there's a long weekend from 22 - 25 December 2007 (Saturday to Tuesday), as 25 December 2007, Tuesday (Christmas Day) is a regular non-working holiday and the President already declared 24 December 2007 (Monday) as a special non-working holiday. While we're at it, maybe it's best to reiterate that there's annother long weekend from 29 December 2007 - 1 January 2008 (Saturday to Tuesday), as 30 December 2007 (Rizal Day, Sunday) is a regular non-working holiday, 31 December 2007 (Last Day of the Year, Monday) is a special holiday, and 1 January 2008 (New Year’s Day, Tuesday) is a regular non-working holiday. Now, as the computation of holiday pay, here's the Labor Advisory issued by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE): ----------------------------- TO: All Employers in the Private Sector SUBJECT: December 24, 2007 (Monday) and December 31, 2007 (Monday), Special (Non-Working) Days; December 30, 2007 (Sunday) and January 1, 2008 (Tuesday), Regular Holidays throughout the country pursuant to Proclamation Nos, 1211 and 1353 in relation to Republic Act No. 9492 Pursuant to Proclamation Nos. 1211 and 1353, issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on January 10, 2007 and on August 6, 2007, respectively, in relation to Republic Act No. 9492, the following rules for pay on special days and regular holidays as provided for under DOLE Memorandum Order No. 01 (dated March 8, 2004) shall apply: 1. For December 24 and December 31, 2007 a) If unworked:
b) If worked:
c) If worked, but failing on the employee's rest day:
2. For December 25, December 30, 2007 and January 1, 2008 a) If the day is the employee's regular workday:
b) If the day is the employee's rest day:
