National Regular and Special Holidays for 2008 in the Philippines Print E-mail
Written by Fred, on 11-01-2008 12:14

It seems many are planning their 2008 vacations way ahead of schedule. This early (this article was originally posted in November 2007), there are hits to this site searching for 2008 national holidays (for 2007 holidays, please go here) in the Philippines. Providing a fixed list of holiday dates is difficult because most of the 2008 regular holidays and nationwide special holidays are movable, as provided under Republic Act 9492 (an Act rationalizing the celebration of national holidays). For these movable holidays, the President is tasked by law to issue a Proclamation, at least 6 months prior to a movable holiday, fixing the specific date of that non-working day. Here's the list of Philippine holidays under RA 9492, unless the Proclamation is indicated:

National Regular Holidays and Special Non-Working Holidays (unless otherwise indicated as a special non-working holiday, the holiday listed is a regular holiday)

New Year's Day January 1, 2009

The Eidul Adha shall be celebrated as a regional holiday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). (Notes: Malacanang already issued Proclamation 1463 [full text here], fixing the holidays for 2008. Those with asterisks [*] are fixed/final dates; those with [**] are not Mondays, as fixed in  Proclamation 1463 contrary to the provision of RA 9442 that it should be in the nearest Monday; the date with [***] is a non-working holiday added by Proclamation 1463.) Anne, thank you very much. To minimize confusion, the post had been revised, chronologically listing the holidays (instead of dividing them between regular and special non-working holidays).

this is very informative. thanks for posting. however, pls update your list, it is quite misleading. dec29 is a monday, not thursday. and as per proclamation 1463, rizal day holiday is on dec30. dec29 is an additional holiday.

also, dec29 (monday) thru jan1 (thursday) are all holidays. does anyone know if jan 2 2009 (friday) is also a holiday?

ashley, as stated in the list, April 7 is a non-working nationwide holiday (Araw ng Kagitingan). As you may have noticed in the last part of the post, the date is already fixed through a Proclamation issued by Malacanang. Enjoy the long weekend. :)

Tec, most probably it won't be moved. May 1 is a Thursday and despite that knowledge, Malacanang still issued a Proclamation maintaining that date. According to Malacanang, May 1 has been a long cherished tradition of workers, a holiday which trade unions fought very hard to institutionalize in the country and an international event that the workers want to celebrate on its exact date. Still, they could always move the date.
