Half-day work duty on Wednesday, 31 October 2007? Print E-mail
Due to the declared regular holidays and special non-working holidays on 29 October 2007, as well as 1 and 2 November 2007, there are only two (2) working days for this week. Sounds great. On the other hand, my wife kept telling me that there's already a declaration that work for 31 October is only half-day. I told her, however, that I haven't heard of any proclamation declaring 31 October as a half-day non-working holiday.

The closest pronouncement to that is this report: "The private sector, meanwhile, was given discretion to allow employees to render half-day duty on Wednesday, October 31, to enable them to start their annual exodus to the provinces." This declaration appears to be superfluous because employers always have the discretion to declare any day as a non-working day. Just to be clear - we  haven't heard any declaration or proclamation to that effect. It's within the discretion of management. If you know of any general declaration, please share it with the rest of the community. (Other regular/special holidays and declared non-working holidays for November and December 2007 are here.)
