Who Moved My Cheese (Spencer Johnson)
Books
Thursday, 20 March 2008
Some time ago, my father handed me a book, Who Moved My Cheese, by Dr. Spencer Johnson (Vermilion [1998], 95 pages). It’s a short one; I finished it in just under an hour. The theme is about anticipating, accepting and enjoying change in work and in life. It’s about having the guts to step out of our comfort zones.

Unfinished Business: Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez
Visit Philippines
Sunday, 16 March 2008

I know the billing of this boxing fight is "Unfinished Business," but it has nothing to do with business. The roads are eerily quite today. No traffic. Not much people. Crime rate was practically down to zero. No fighting in politics (but not the “politicking”). No, there’s no coup or some destabilization plot. No war between the military and the rebels. But there’s another war brewing.

Dacion en Pago (Dation in Payment)
Contracts
Friday, 14 March 2008
The Pinoy Entrepreneur would normally think that a sale, among other commercial transactions, involves cash or money as payment for the property being sold. Rightly so. Now, if money is the agreed mode of payment under the contract, what happens if the parties subsequently agree that something other than money, like a parcel of land or a car, is used as payment?

The Wealthy Barber: Everyone's Common Sense Guide to Becoming Financially Independent
Books
Friday, 07 March 2008
A recent study shows that majority of Americans are financially illiterate. This is most probably true, if not more true, for Filipinos, although this can't simply be attributed to the oft-cited plague of colonial mentality (which purportedly pulls us Pinoys to whatever is "stateside" or foreign), but to the relatively poorer condition of a large percentage of the Philippine population. Anyway, let's get back on track before we stray into political commentary.

Necessary Factors for a Successful Business
Entrepreneurship
Friday, 29 February 2008
A business plan is basically a written outline that evaluates all aspects of the economic viability of a business venture, including a description and analysis of the business prospects. This is according to the Business Philippines, a site of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) that we previously cited as one of  the government sites most helpful to the Pinoy Entrepreneurs. Business Philippines also states that "a business plan is an essential step for any prudent entrepreneur to take, regardless of the size of the business."

John L. Gokongwei, Jr. - The Path of Entrepreneurship (Part 2)
Books
Tuesday, 26 February 2008
The brief life story of Mr. John Gokongwei is discussed in Part 1 of this article. As previously noted, Marites Khanser analyzed the entrepreneurial style of Mr. Gokongwei, as well as entrepreneurship in general, in the book "John L. Gokongwei, Jr.: The Path of Entrepreneurship" (Loyola Schools, Ateneo de Manila University, 2007). Here, we discuss the observations of Dr. Khanser in the book, as well as lessons distilled from Gokongwei's speeches.
