Everyone knows that there's an ongoing diaspora of Filipino workers in search of greener pastures. Consider these figures: The number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who worked abroad at anytime during the period April to September 2006 reached 1.52 million. The 2006 estimate represents an increase of 14.3 percent over the 1.33 million OFWs estimated for the period April to September 2005. The Overseas Contract Workers (OCWs) or those with existing work-contract abroad comprised 91.4 percent (1.38 million) of the total OFWs during the period April to September 2006. This number is 14.0 percent more than the 1.21 million OCWs for the same months in 2005.

Surely, you've heard about the (old) news that Google bought YouTube for a whopping US$ 1.65 billion. Even if we use the 7-year highest value of the Peso, at P44.15, that still boils down to an insane figure that wouldn't fit in my cellphone calculator. Yugatech recently noted that the TechCrunch blog (yes, a blog), is raking in $240,000, or just over P10,000,000, per MONTH. These are just some illustrations on how income or wealth could be made on the internet (of course, other than pyramiding scams like FrancSwiss), something which is not entirely beyond the reach of Pinoys. |

In all probability, the ads that you'll probably notice are those that are funny or those that appeal to the heart (well, aside from those liquor ads with sexy models). In the Philippine fastfood advertising scene, the battle over the hearts and stomachs of the Pinoys is evident in the clash between fastfood giants Jollibee and McDonald's. |

You may have heard others say: “God has a plan for each of us”; “You must fulfill your destiny”; “He is destined to be great”; “I am willing to go through this, if this is God’s plan for me”; or “I need a sign that this is God’s plan for me”. In short, there seems to be a predetermined end. However, I understand that one of Gods gift to mankind is Freewill (is it?). A predetermined end appears to be inconsistent with Freewill, for the end ceases to be predetermined if we are free to accept or reject it. On the other hand, Freewill is hardly free if, no matter what choice we make, we still end up with the same thing. |
